Trail Blazer

Blazers are the new tees! Blazers have joined the ranks of tees as style staples. Everywhere you turn, you see this stylish jackets.

We know that a perfectly structured blazer goes well with jeans (the skinnier the better), but how about stepping up the chic level an donning a distressed pair? The look has a casual chic air and is a great way to dress down the blazer for an everyday look.

Pair your blazer with your trusty LBD. Take a sophisticated approach and rock the black blazer and step it up with a material such as velvet. This is also a great time to add color or pattern (loving jacquard) to the mix and you are ready to paint the town!

Take a light-weight dress from fall to winter with the simply addition of a blazer and layer up. You can do the same with your short sleeve graphic tees or cotton tees by layering the blazer over the top as well. The tee, blazer and a ponte pant or legging are style perfection!

Getting dressed for work doesn't have to be a bore. A cool gray blazer is ideal for an everyday office look. Don't hesitate to pair it with a trendy top such as a peplum blouse or add a print such as polka dots.

Trust me, you NEED a blazer in your wardrobe. Dress it up or down, layer it or make a statement. No matter which style you choose, you are sure to be ultimately chic with the season hottest staple; the blazer!

Loving Local - Lori Snyder

Fresh off of our successful jewelry trunk show this weekend, we were excited to debut our latest jewelry line, Lori Snyder. Lori entered the industry in 2000 when she opened her first store, Charlotte's Beads and Gifts in Winston Salem, NC. The store was set in an old southern style home and featured "make your own jewelry and gifts" which became known as funky and eclectic. A wonderful idea, but it did not fulfill her dream. Her true passion was designing and creating beautiful pieces of art work, which was not fulfilled with her store alone. She felt that she could not fully express herself as an artist. In 2004, she decided to launch her own hand-made jewelry line and Lori Snyder jewelry was born.

Her designs are eclectic and fun, but also great for every day. She uses semi-precious stones, freshwater pearls, and vintage inspired gems.  Her use of color and vibrant hues is sure to make a statement. Her pieces feel one of a kind with combinations of gold, silver and colored beads.Stack then with an every day tee or add elegance to any attire for your holiday party. Mix and match, but these are sure to dazzle this holiday season. Grab a piece for you and put one under the tree! They make great gifts!

Radiant Orchid

Pantone has released their 2014 color of the year. While emerald still seems to be all the rage, it’s time to welcome in the new Pantone Color of The Year — radiant orchid! The soft, muted hue is a noticeable change of pace compared to it’s predecessors, but we’re excited to welcome the pretty purple! Every December, Pantone ushers in the new color — and that means you can expect to see it on practically every item on store racks and shelves. From nail polishes to purses, the color is definitely going to have a major moment — but you don’t have to wait for 2014 to try it out!

While at first glance the hue screams bridesmaid dress, it actually is all the rage for spring, with so many designers incorporating it into their collections — but that doesn’t mean you can’t rock it in the winter and fall! With fuschia, purple, and pink undertones there’s so many ways to sport the shade. For fall or winter, a muted version on a tote, coat, or dress is the way to go. If you aren’t a fan of the hue we recommend easing into the look with accessories that can dress up your basic staples and add a pop of color to your look. You also can rely on a pretty tint for your lips and cheeks to showcase the shade — and that you can wear all year long!

Poncho Perfect

Chilly days (and nights) are among us. Say goodbye to our southern warmth and welcome winter with open arms. This season, the addition of a poncho (or 2, or 3) into your collection is a must! Originally a Native American outer garment, the poncho has evolved into a style essential. It protects for from fall's chill and keeps you cozy in winter.

When the chill of fall is not overwhelming, wear a tiny or thin poncho over your tank or light sweater paired with jeans and riding boots for additional warmth. Because the poncho is formfitting, keep the bottom portion of your attire more structured and fitted. A skinny jean, legging or ponte pant will work well.

When transitioning from fall to winter, you need outfits that are not too warm, yet are enough to keep you comfortable when the wind turns chilly. A longer poncho can achieve this! Choose a poncho that can be worn as a coat or heavy wrap-around dress. A belted poncho can quickly be worn open when it's mild or wrapped tightly around you when the wind requires. A longer poncho allows you to transition from pants to tights. This can create a dressier look. Pair with booties or keep with the higher boot.

As temperatures drop and winter months set in, make sure the fabric of your poncho is sufficiently warm. Go for thick wool and cashmere blends. Add a turtleneck sweater teamed with a fitted pant and over-the-knee boots.  Have fun with your poncho and mix materials. Leather or fur trim looks classy, yet fun for cool temperatures. The addition of fur is also sure to keep you cozy.

We are loving our selection of ponchos for every-day or happy hour!

LBD with a Twist

It has been a fashion staple and go-to for centuries. We think it's safe to say the LBD is put on heavy rotation. For brunch, with friends, office meetings, girls' nights out, or your hot date, the LBD can be transformed time and time again. While you can always play it safe in this "can't go wrong" look; why not amp up your typical LBD? It's true the frock is timeless, but step up your style and opt for a twist on  a classic.

A casual day of holiday shopping can call for a black shirtdress. Simply pair it with boot or tights and flats for a cool and preppy look. Add a shape by belting the dress and don't hesitate to add a bold earring or necklace if you feel the need for bling.

A black leather dress is the ultimate in sexy. Pair it with tights and a crystal or jeweled collar necklace for date night or an evening out on the town. Because the leather is dramatic, keep the rest of the attire low key. Keep with the black theme and go with your simple black pump.

A black sheath dress is always a favorite, but pick up a little bit of attitude by choosing a sheath with embellishments or texture. We are loving the use of tweed and a tweed sleeve is all you need for a modest, yet upscale look. If you crave sparkle, look for a sheath with the embellishment on the sleeve or around the neckline. Embellishments are festive without seeming overboard.

Metallics have been a trend for not only jewelry, but garments as well. Choose a LBD with a touch of metallic. This can be shimmery thread woven into the dress or a panel of silver. The use of a silver, gold or pewter will give the attire a dressier flare without having to go full on cocktail.

Play around with texture and fabrics. Incorporate lace, fringe, feathers or tulle. It doesn't have to be as dramatic as a feather skirt, but can be subtle such as a panel or cutout lined with tulle.

It's true that there is something to be said for a classic, but a little fashion update never hurt anyone. Play with fabrics, bring on the glitz and glam it up for the season in your remixed LBD!

Put on Your Party Pants

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Present wrapping, festive cookies, holiday parties! Spread good cheer with holiday and party attire that is just right! Don't be fooled that pants aren't considered dressy when it comes to party attire. Put on your party pants and get noticed this season!

We are loving the emergence of the textured pant! Fall in love with jacquard prints that add pattern. Embrace the power of print such as a damask. Combine your printed pant or crop with a deep hued top or blouse. Go festive in a shimmer pant. Don't limit yourself to the generic metallics (though also a great option) stand out in royal blue shimmer or a jeweled tone emerald for the season! Go glam in a sequin legging. These scream festive, so keep it simple on top. Opt for a simple blouse or solid blazer such as black, navy or winter white. It's no secret that leather is a hot topic as we transition into winter. Pull your fun and sparkling top out of the closet and pair it with leather pants. Another great option with the leather is a silk blouse tucked in or your faithful peplum sweater. Wax denim has been the rage for fall and it will take us straight into holiday season as well. We don't always consider denim holiday appropriate, but with the right top, jewels and accessories you will be a party princess. Let the denim serve as the most casual part of your outfit. Dress it up with a lace top and large sparkling earrings. This is your chance to add color with a bold suede pump in a hue such as red or a sequin flat.

If you fret that your party pant is too casual, always dress it up with accessories! A gemstone necklace or dazzling drop earrings can add the extra "umph" you are looking for. A crystal clutch will catch anyone's eye or a shimmery pump exudes festive style!

Happy party hopping!

Fabric Blocking

Forget color blocking for fall; it's the stark contrast of various fabrics that have caught our eye! Fall 2013 collections are showcasing multi-patterned patchwork and fabric blocking creations, half and half fabric swatches like abstract leather panels on wool or silk sleeves on suede and tufts of fur make mixed media dressing a game changer this season.

Different fabrics add texture and a fun element to any article of clothing. It is a way to switch up from your typical monotone sweater and add dimension. Leather is a huge addition to garments this fall. Leather panels on pants, leather sleeves on a top or a leather pocket on a dress. Dress up your attire with silk. A silk bell sleeve or silk hemline is perfect for an evening out! The use of lace is elegant! A lace overlay or panel is sure to draw eyes your way. Stay cozy by adding suede! Mix and match any of these desirable fabrics with your everyday cotton, wool, or cashmere.Blocking these together make for an irresistible ensemble, plus steps up your fashion game!

We are swarming with fabric blocked pieces. Lots of leather, denim, silk and more! Whatever the occasion, we have day to evening looks in store now!

Power of Ponte

My word of advice for winter...purchase the ponte! The Ponte pant is stylish, yet comfortable and easy to dress up or down. Did I mention COMFORTABLE? It is the legging's slightly more sophisticated cousin. They are your answer to an alternative for the skinny jean or wearing leggings as pants. Think of them as a cross between a legging and skinny jean. They are made of ponte, which is a thick, double-knit fabric with two way stretch. We love the two way stretch because it is able to mold to your body shape, while also acting as shapewear.  This also enables the comfort factor!

Since they are a thicker fabric than the legging, they become appropriate for work or a dressy occasion and the thickness offers a little more support due to the nature of the fabric. Wear them as you would a skinny jean. Keep in mind that it is all about balance. The ponte pant is still a fitted pant, so they look great with a loose or more voluminous top. Think over-sized sweater or cardigan or a blouse that offers a little more length. These pants are travel perfection, as they fold easily into a suitcase without wrinkling! They can be your lazy Saturday pant with a cozy sweater, or hit the town with a dressy top and heels. We are loving the BB Dakota ponte in store with exposed zippers. We are also slightly obsessed with the ponte the has leather panels or opt for a colored ponte pant if you are looking past classic black. Try on the ponte pant in store and let us pair them with one of our ponchos, studded blouse, or leather front top. Fall in love this winter with the comfiest pant yet!

Leather Lust

The further into cooler months we get, the more lackadaisical we get with our wardrobe choices. It becomes simple to throw on jeans or leggings and run out the door. Looking for a way to dress things up? Look beyond the LBD! Love your leather this fall and embrace this edgy trend! Though it has become increasingly trendy over the past year, you might not realize that it has always been a key part to any stylish woman's closet: from shoes to bags to jackets, consider leather the pre-requisite to chic!

Look past your traditional leather pieces and incorporate this versatile material into your fall wardrobe. It's highly versatile and can be done in so many color and silhouettes, and it looks great paired with nearly every other fabric. If you dare to take on the leather trend in full force, opt for pieces such as a leather pencil skirt, pants, a cropped moto jacket, or the sultry leather dress! If you choose one of these major pieces, let that be all the statement leather within the ensemble. No need to pair leather boots or or a stack leather on leather. The exception is with smaller accessories such as a leather clutch or gloves. Don't let the material become overwhelming.

If you are hesitant to wear full-on leather, remember that it's all in the details. You can wear a piece that simply has leather detailing, such as a top with leather sleeves or a jacket piped in leather. We are seeing many combination pieces that incorporate your wearable cotton with leather accents. If you are worried that the leather is too edgy, soften it with light-weight fabrics such as a silk blouse. As always, you can accessorize in leather with a leather wrap bracelet, leather gloves, or even a leather headband to keep up with the trend. Love your leather this season and learn to rock it for fall and into winter!

Green with Envy

It's always fashion talk of what will be the IT color for the new season. Unlike texture or shape, there is a shade of every color for every person. Color is a surefire way to adopt relevant style with each and every change of the fashion guard. Green is officially a thing for fall 2013. From emerald to army, there's a shade for every skin tone, hair color, and personal style. Leading the pack is the deep lichen green. (think between army and khaki). This hue topped the women's list and finished third on the men's side for fall color trends. It's not exactly a shocker of a fall color, it turned up in the more unusual hues of emerald and linden. Green is a big one for Fall, 2013 in a variety of ways, in a variety of hues. From dresses, outwear and tops to pantsuits and gloves, you can't go wrong picking something up in the color infamously associated with envy.

Choose emerald, or go for a deeper hue, but it pairs well with many skin and hair colors. Opt for a green dress, paired with black tights and booties. Saunter into the office in deep green pants, paired with a simple white blouse or lighter color. Black and green are always a trusty combination. When in doubt, pair black or white. Use the black articles in your closet to pair with the newest tone for fall. A green pencil skirt or even dark green denim are all options. Fall style doesn't have to be dark and dreary. Add color with a cobalt blue necklace or earring. Another piece we are swooning over is the green blazer. Easily thrown on over jeans and a blouse or over your LBD for evening. Polish the look by adding a bold red lip! You are sure to turn heads in fall's latest and greatest color!

Hail the Logo Tee

Designers are taking notice of cheeky sayings and putting them directly onto one of our ultimate casual wardrobe staples; the tee shirt. The logo tee is an easy to wear article that has become a favorite among fashion bloggers, models, and celebrities. The key is turning the simple logo tee into a statement piece.

Play with this vintage look and pair it with distressed denim and complete the ensemble with a pair of rocker heels. Opposites attract and this combination is edgy, yet essentially effortless. For even more juxtaposition, throw on your tee with a leather skirt and flats. As fall draws near, opt for a logo sweatshirt over a pair of cotton or leather leggings. As always, a slogan tee is perfection when paired with jeans. As mentioned earlier, the distressed look is the ultimate for urban chic or sloppily tuck in your tee to a pair of rolled denim and pointed flats.

Take a dressier approach by adding jewels or glam things up with a black blazer or shine in a metallic crop blazer and complete the look with booties. Throw in color by strapping up in a pair of colored pumps. Another effortless option is to combine the tee with an A-line solid skirt. It will flatter your figure while still appearing cool and casual. Lastly, stand up for what you believe in! Everyone loves a tee for a cause! Mix and match your logo or printed tee with almost anything in your closet and you are sure to make low key look lovely!

Fall's Peplum Party

It's a trend that has been dominating the runways and seems to be one that is sticking. The peplum has taken over and simply can't be ignored for fall. Not only is this a chic twist on your every-day blouse or top, but it is ridiculously flattering! With so many options and ways to style the peplum top; you can instantly transition from work to play!

A tailored top will be ultimate for your work week. Pair them with a sleek trousers for fall. Wide or skinny pants work with this as well. Go with what feels most comfortable and flatters your shape. Brighten up your otherwise lackluster work attire with a bright pop of color over those black pants. If your office is a little on the conservative side, try a muted patterned peplum top with neutral colors. This exaggerated top is also perfection paired with a pencil skirt. It creates sleek lines and classic style, perfect for the work world.

Distressed denim is another trend that we can't seem to get enough of. Put a peplum top over the relaxed look for a combination of chic and grunge. The combination is amazing and fresh for fall! Add a pointy heel for an effortless but dazzling combination.

Don't hesitate to venture outside of the peplum top trend and opt for a peplum skirt or dress. These pieces are statement pieces and can be as structured or as boho as you would like. Style a skirt with a fitted, sleeveless blouse or plain white tee for warmer temperatures and wear it with a chunky sweater and booties for fall. A figure flattering sheath dress with the addition of a peplum is perfection! Add a chunky necklace or or large earrings.

Add umph to any outfit this fall and get peplum crazed!

Summer to Fall

As August days fly by, we are finding that September is creeping up on us! Fall catalogs are arriving at our doorsteps and store windows fill with vests, sweaters and boots! While NC boasts sweltering summer days well into fall months, we find ourselves asking the question on how to transition? It can be tricky, but you can combine fall and summer pieces for the ideal balance.

Certain colors are acceptable year-round. When in doubt, certain color palettes can work for humid August afternoons or crisp September mornings. Nude tones work well no matter what the season. Try a nude dress with a pop of color cardigan and gold or silver jewelry. A nude pump may become your best friend for the next few months. They are acceptable with most any attire. Black and white a great transitional color combo. It has been hot all season and the trend will continue into autumn months.

Denim is perhaps the easiest to transition. Break out your favorite jeans and throw on a light-knit top or even a summer sweater that is still full of color! A light scarf is the ultimate accessory. Pile it on over any top to update any outfit!

Don't hesitate to layer! As with the scarf, try an open cardigan or sheer cotton sweatshirt as a casual day look. Structure the outfit with the addition of a blazer. Another hot garment for the season; it can be neutral with a camel or navy color or a vibrant hot pink or red! We are seeing  a rise in the denim jacket trend! Layer it over a silk blouse and shorts or over your maxi.

Don't be afraid to dabble in fall hues with your current closet favorites. Mix in fall signatures such as red, orange, rust or mustard.

Not sure if you are ready to pull out the black or deep chocolate colored bag? Stick to neutral during the transitional months. A nude, taupe or gray will work well against any hue, summer of fall.

We have pre-fall goodies in the store with your fall faves arriving all the time!

Pre-Fall Arrivals

We can all agree that we aren't quite ready to hang up our tanks and replaces them with a chunky pull-over. But, the reality is that Anna & Alice is receiving shipments of pre-fall wardrobe options in! We must admit, we love what we see. One garment that is filling our shelves is the light-weight sweater. Turning heads are colorful knits, and wool-blends. The beginning of fall brings light layers and mixing and matching seasonal pieces.

Denim will be your best friend moving forward. Transition with a mid summer top over your denim when a chilly morning won't allow for shorts. If you are adamant on showing off what is left of your summer tan; keep rocking your printed shorts, but add a crocheted sweater for laid back style or dress up the look with a colored blazer. Learn to love your leather! It will surly be a fall favorite and this is another piece that is easily layered for conundrum fall temps. Throw on the rocker-chic jacket for a breezy outside brunch or date-night once the sun has gone down. Sticking with our leather trend; be a style icon in a pair of leather pants (real or faux). These can take the place of your four season old leggings! They are perfect to pair with a comfy tank or bedazzled tunic.

Looking for the ultimate in transitional for a fall bag? Choose a lighter leather such as camel or caramel. They easily blend with many color palettes and are a great seasonal item that can take you through many months at a time. We love a great cross-body or an edgy suede hobo bag with tassels.

Layer it on! We have new all items arriving almost daily! Enjoy our sweaters, denim, scarves and jacket collection for the autumn months ahead!

The Glam Kaftan

This summer take a break from your good ol' maxi dress and set your sights on something with a little more glam to it. The caftan is a magical, elegant, flowing garment made of luscious printed cotton or silk which instantly transforms the wearer into a truly ethereal creature. The Middle Eastern inspired garment is oh-so versatile and makes for a way to beat the heat in style. The kaftan looks great when dressed up for an evening or as a beach cover-up. The breezy summer piece can be worn almost any time or anywhere. Think beach, spa, night on the town, or mid-summer getaway.

A summer kaftan is the way to be ready for all eventualities from morning to late evening. It works perfectly for the beach matched with a bikini and a maxi bag, but can also be used as a stylish outfit for a party during the evening, worn with wedges and finished off with a clutch.

For day, wear a kaftan around town with a thick leather belt of skinny jeans. If you are petite, you will be able to pull off the kaftan dress look. Just make sure the garment is not too short to avoid showing a little too much. Depending on the length, you can wear wedges or flats.

Kaftans are pretty and exotic and can take you from the beach to an elegant summer dinner. Experiment with different materials such cotton, silk or linen. Each fabric holds a different style and look.

All in the Jeans

For some, they can't get enough. For other, it's their worst nightmare...denim! We love to hate all the different style of denim that are on the fashion scene. With so many options, it's difficult to know if your direction is skinny, bootcut, or flared. Jean shopping can be a truly mind-boggling experience. At times it seems this closet staple seems to complement everything...except our physique. Here's the SKINNY on the perfect style for you.

Minimize your Midsection: The rise of the jean is important. Choose a mid-rise that will draw attention to your natural waist instead of your hips. A little stretch goes a long way, gravitate towards a high cotton, denim without all the stretch. The cotton classics won't cling and you will be able to avoid the dreaded muffin top! Avoid buttons or embellishments at the front pocket.

A Slimming Effect: A darker wash is the way to go to look picture perfect. Generally, a straight-legged that is slightly form fitting or a trouser complements a fuller figure.

Counteract Curves - If you are pear-shaped, it is most important to choose a fit that is a little higher on the hips and over the rear to keep you covered. Steer clear of anything super tapered to create an overall balance which helps keep your hips looking slim and streamlined.

Thin Thigh Illusion: A flare can counterbalance your proportion and draw the eye down. Believe it or not a skinny jean can create this illusion as well. A darker wash is more forgiving and paired with a non-fitted top will again, draw the eyes down taking the attention off your thighs.

Add Umph: If you have a boyish figure and you crave curves, have no fear. A slight bootcut or flare will create a curvier silhouette from top to bottom. Pay attention to detail. Denim with zipper pockets on the upper thighs will draw attention outward to round you out. A detailed back pocket will also give a flat bottom some dimension. Avoid the boyfriend jean.

Got the Blues

Do you find yourself scanning your closet and finding a plethora of black? We all fall in the trap. Black is an easy, neutral color to wear, so when in doubt we buy a black dress, black pants, or a black top. It is slimming and easy to match. I'd like to let you in on a little secret; blue is almost just as simple! It is easy to pair and looks good on the majority of skin tones, hair and eye colors. What are you waiting for? Get the blues!

Many designers looked into the water and sky for inspiration this season and translated these themes onto the runway with pretty cloud prints, varying shades of blue and fluid fabrics. Currently trending is cobalt blue. It is bright, bold and guaranteed to get you noticed. Going with cobalt for your 9-5, choose one piece such as a top or skirt and pair it with a neutral white or black. It is sophisticated but still fun for the office. Take a traditional turn on blue with a softer edge by combining the blue with white. This print combination makes for an easy breezy summer frock. It complements an olive skin tone as well as porcelain skin. If you are convinced that blue isn't for you. Stick to tried and true denim. You can't go wrong with a medium wash denim pant or short. This is the easiest of the blue family to match. Literally, you can get away with almost any color of the rainbow with denim.

If you are worried about skin tone, keep in mind that lighter shades tend to complement darker skin tones and a deeper blue looks perfect on lighter tones. If you are sun-kissed, gravitate towards teal, sky blue. If you haven't made it to the pool this summer, try a navy or royal blue. The color of the season; cobalt will work on almost all tones!

Ease yourself into the trend with stand-out blue accessories. Bags, shoes and even socks in the bright blue all pack  real sartorial punch. Find your hue in blue this summer!

Patriotic Picks

The summer solstice has arrived and we are welcoming warmer temperatures with open arms! As we gear up for barbecues, beach getaways, or cruising the lake, nothing puts us in the mood for summer quite like celebrating our country's independence. Plus, there are tons of great attire options to have you looking chic as your salute our flag!

As a general rule of thumb, don't go overboard and stick to two of the 3 American colors. Avoid mimicking the flag. Accent your red, white or blue withe neutral accents such as a brown cross-body or add a little shine with gold or silver jewels.

If you are participating in events where you will be bathing suit clad, a chic cover up can be sultry for summer. Break out your white sandals, navy tunic cover up and complete the look with a straw hat. You can even dress things up a bit with neutral stud earrings. (for those of you that feel absolutely naked with no jewelry) Simplicity is best when rocking a swim suit. You can still look couture with the basics.

Take full advantage of the nautical trend, but you don't have to limit yourself with red, white or blue. Add accessories such as a yellow acrylic necklace or a cropped blazer over shorts. Choose one nautical focal point and layer it with unexpected pieces to pull the summer look together.

If you are attending a formal soiree, a simple sheath dress piled high with jewelry will work perfectly. A red sleeveless dress piled with gold, tortoise, or a subdued colored necklace will dress up or down the look. Gold accents such as a clutch, heels or jewelry will be eye-catching against your red, white or blue.

Plan to keep it chic with patriotic flair for a flawless 4th of July look!

BB Dakota

BB Dakota is a modern lifestyle brand designed by mother-daughter team, Gloria and Katharine Brandes. Each of the women brings their distinct viewpoint to the design process, which is what gives the BB Dakota look its compelling duality. Minimalist

Sometimes less is more and this summer trend lends itself nicely to warm weather. Sometimes you have to look back to basics and focus on clean lines, a streamline look and crisp natural color palettes. Welcome to the no-nonsense approach to style!

A minimalist style doesn't force you to think so hard. Forget mixing prints, color-blocking, or worrying about what pattern looks best on you. This  summer trend is simple, yet stunning. Start with colors such as nude, white, champagne, gray, or black. All of these uphold the minimalist trend standards. Shift your focus on crisp construction and architectural shapes. The splashes of color are minimal and are replaced with edgy geographic shapes, texture and boldness.

Keep it simple! This style is throw on and go. A white or black dress with a v-neck and cinched at the waist with a neutral belt will do just fine! Keep accessories dainty. Small stud earrings and a thin chain necklace or one simple longer necklace. Shoes are easy because these colors can all be combined for maximum effect. Create as much or as little shape as you want. From a pencil skirt to over-sized knit sweater and shorts, the soft colors are what hold the look together. Don't hesitate to layer the pieces or opt for forms of texture through pleating, organza or a sheer panel or application within the outfit.

Summer Lust

It's time we say goodbye to chilly temperatures and rainy afternoons. As we welcome summer with open arms, what's on your shopping list? Think of the wardrobe staples that can take you from spring to summer in flawless fashion.

Colored Pants - We are seeing color splashed everywhere! Colored pants are an irresistible way to brighten any day. They also can take you day to night with ease. They can easily transition into your wardrobe because all of us own a few (or a million) neutral tops. Whether you choose to be pretty in pastel denim or show stopping orange trousers, you won't regret such a vivid purchase.

A Florescent Frock - Add glow with neon brights. A solid neon piece won't fail you. Go dressy in a yellow cocktail dress or dazzle in a hot pink cotton maxi. These colors are the statement of the summer and not to mention, will enhance your tan (whether via sunless tanner or sunshine).

The Cotton Dress - Every girl wants to have that comfy piece that she can throw on in an instant. A cotton dress is just that. It's that dress that you can throw on with any shoe, pile on the jewelry or nothing at all. Stick to white or black or venture to a warm weather hue.

Maxi - The maxi has taken over and we couldn't be happier. They are comfortable and extremely wearable. A silk maxi is dressy enough for a summer soiree or wedding. A cotton maxi is ideal by the pool, while hanging beach-side, or brunch with the girls! Whether a maxi dress or skirt, make sure it is hanging in your closet for summer months.

Tote Bag - Think one size fits all. In the summer we stock on up sunscreen, lip gloss, water bottles, wallets. These can't fit in your cross-body, so invest in a great tote. A straw tote for travel or a nude leather bag for every day, you can't go wrong and will be able to fit all of your must-have hot weather items in one place!

Weekend Wear

What better way to stay casual and cool than to flaunt a pair of denim shorts? The denim short has been around for centuries, and this season is no different. You are in luck with all the options; colored, distressed, high-waisted, dark wash, light wash...they are all summer hits.

Casual - Slouchy and over-sized is the ultimate for comfort. A white or colored tank along with a pair of gladiator sandals will complete the look. If you dare to bare, the cutoffs are a cute option, especially if you are beach combing. Stay comfy in one of our soft cotton tees or graphic tee.

Romantic - Floral prints are back this spring and translate well onto denim. Tuck in a pastel or light shaded blousy top. Think linen for comfort on hot days, or sleeveless silk for a dressier option. A pair of nude or metallic flats will anchor the rest of the look.

Chic - The high-waisted short might be your new best friend. The  high-waisted design makes your hips look thing and your back extremely sexy. Tuck in chambray, or a structured blouse as to not hide the flattering figure.

Edgy - An ultimately weekend look includes studded or tie dyed denim. A top with dolman sleeves or a relaxed thin knit sweater will help you channel your inner Boho.

What style is best for you? We have great denim looks and combos currently in stock. We are currently loving DL1961 tie dye, cutoffs, and colored shorts and can't get enough!

Just in Time for Summer

Summer is just around the corner and many of us are day dreaming of a tropical getaway complete with cobalt blue water and pristine beaches. OH, you can't make it to Tahiti this year? No worries! Try Kai!

Gaye Straza spend her youth vacationing in the tropics and longed for a scent that embodied the laid-back, tropical lifestyle. After years of avoiding mainstream perfumes, she decided to create a scent of her own that was as exotic as the white flowers she loved. After months of perfecting the scent and working tirelessly with a small boutique fragrance house, she developed Kai Frangrance.

The first time Straza wore Kai, she was stopped mid-stride by a beauty editor on Madison Avenue in New York City, asking where she could buy the scent. Straza soon worked to make the fragrance available in her own upscale women's fashion boutique in Malibu. Soon, Kai took on an life of its own. After so much deamn for her fragrance, Straza sold her boutique in 1999 to develop the line and launching Kai as its own company. Today, Kai is sold exclusively at boutiques and spas all over the world. At Anna & Alice we swoon over the soft and calming scents. Customer favorites include the body lotion, spray and perfumes. Many devotees to the brand include Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Garner, Naomi Watts among others. If you can't sink your toes in the sand (or even if you can) soothe your skin with the exotic scents. Consider Kai a summer essential; right up there with your sun hat, denim shorts and flowy silk top.

Tribal Inspiration

What are we loving? Bright patterns, edgy graphics and tons of accessories! The tribal trend is taking over spring and summer store windows with a vengeance. It's a fresh take on patterns and creates a sophisticated but bohemian vibe.

Choose colors based on your style from bright neons to dusty earth tones  Combine the bold patterns with solid colors to anchor the look. Spring weather can be somewhat unreliable, so stick to a recent wardrobe staple, your printed denim! choose a lightweight style with Aztec prints or geometric graphics. Simply pair a light knit sweater or dolman top over these to let the print pop! Go with natural accessories to build on the bohemian theme. You can integrate color such as turquoise or stick to your metals such as gold, rose gold, or silver. A day look calls for a simple sandal or short boot.

Planning to go out and about? These prints translate well even on cocktail dresses! Keep it short and sweet in a relaxed fit mini dress or even dress things up in cocktail attire. For the ultimate in comfort and style, go maxi! Pair either with a wedge or strappy heel to complete the evening look! As always, jewels can easily dress up the frock. For a more sophisticated look, stick to metals or gemstones.

As always, fit is important. Be aware of assets you want to draw attention to and ones you don't. Strategically place the print on an asset you are proud of! Prints and patterns are everywhere, but because of the drama a tribal print brings, tone it down and little and avoid mixing prints. If the trend is a little much for you, start with aztec jewelry or a tribal clutch to ease into it. As always, have fun with the trend!

Back to Basics

We saw slightly more defined runway looks this season. Looks that forwent the previous season's color splashing. While our love affair with neons, pastels and citrus combinations is still present; sometimes we have to get back to the basics. Black and white is such a fresh trend for spring, and HELLO!, everyone can wear it!

Go beyond the standard black top, white bottom or vice-versa. Think nautical stripes, standout patterns, and eye-popping prints! Don't be afraid to mix prints and patterns for even more drama! The printed pant has proven to be a raging trend this season. What easier way to pull it off than in black and white? Choose a lovely gingham pattern or flaunt it in shimmery brocade. Pair with a solid black or white top with detail such as ruffles or sequins.

Black and white is the ultimate when it comes to weekend/work wear. The best outfits are the ones that are versatile and are work appropriate, but you will also love to put back on for the weekend! By now, many of us have jumped on the stripes train...and for good reason! They are sexy and slimming and easily paired with other wardrobe staples. An elegant stripe fit and flare skirt is flattering on almost all body types. Mix texture by adding a black and white printed top. For weekend-wear, break out your classic white skinny jean and add a bold popover for a relaxed, but chic look.

If you can't stand the thought of a world with no color, utilize accessories to the max! A bright bag or pump will do just the trick! We are drooling over some of the black and white pieces in the store. Stop by to check out our Rag & Bone alphabet tee and pair it with distressed skinnies by DL1961. You will fall in love with our sophisticated black sheath dress by Sachin + Babi with detailed sleeves.

Just in Time: The Spring Scarf

A scarf doesn't has to be reserved for winter weather. The essentially effortless accessory can spruce up any outfit in seconds! Anna & Alice has an overwhelming selection of these amazing lightweight scarves to put the finishing touches on any outfit. Add color, print, or shimmer. Not to mention, a scarf is a great way to combat fickle spring weather! Don't get stuck in a scarf rut, there are many different ways to twist and tie this neck candy!

Simply drape your scarf over your shoulders for the most simplistic way to flaunt your spring scarf. Because of the long length on either side, save this style for pants, denim or crop pants. Fold the scarf and loop through the loose end through the existing half loop. The loop through is more traditional and is likely to complement almost all attire. To create the illusion of an infinity scarf, loop the entire scarf around your neck and loosely tie it in the back. This looks shorter and not as chunky from the front but gives a little something extra to the back! The double wrap looks great with your hair up or if you opt for a hat. Simply place the middle of the scarf on your neck so the ends drape over your back, and pull the ends back around the hang parallel down your shoulders. Lastly, (another low maintenance trick) is the tie the scarf in front in a loose knot.

A scarf can take you in so many different directions, so don't head out the door without one! Stock up with every color and pattern at great price points!

Warm Weather Leather

When you think leather, you equate it to your winter wardrobe. That has all changed for spring! There is an abundance of leather apparel out there to wear on the sunniest of days! Not only is leather iconic, but it adds a touch of luxe! Don't worry, you can avoid the head to toe rocker look and still look ultra feminine in these duds! It's time for you to embrace leather as an every day fabric.

Merge leather into day attire in pieces. It can be leather trimmed leggings, a top with a leather peplum, or pants with a leather panel. Start with leather accents. Panels and trim were all over the runways. It's a simplistic way to incorporate the trend into your every-day wear. A leather peter-pan collar add the extra ump you are looking for without taking the look overboard. A subtle day time look is the leather short. It is fresh, young and perfect for temperatures on the rise! Lastly, dazzle in a little arm candy with a leather wrap bracelet or a leather cuff for a downtown look.

If the leather trend is one you are no stranger to, step it up and go bold in a leather dress or mini skirt. Black leather is slimming and doesn't have to be drastic! A black leather shift dress with a colored bag is super sultry for a night out. The leather jacket is an investment piece that is worth every penny! It can be worn all season and can be found on the shoulders of almost every fashion forward celebrity! So versatile because it can be paired with a simple tee, jeans and long necklace or over a cocktail dress! It looks great with leggings and boots as well. It's clear from the past two seasons that leather pants are here to stay. Leather is limitless, so don't just envision black. This spring we welcome all colors for the trend. Pastel as well as bright leather is everywhere and there's always the classic tan or white leather that is the ultimate for mixing and matching! Don't be afraid to take on this new endeavor of leather!

Bright Brigade

Want to instantly freshen your wardrobe for spring? Color is infectious and nothing is juicier for spring than citrus! Get inspired by your favorite fruits and think lemon, melon and lime. You are sure to standout in this color palette.

Citrus colors work so well in spring and summer and the combinations are endless. Bright orange shorts and a muted top, a brilliant yellow maxi skirt paired with a tied chambray blouse, or vibrant skinny jeans and a classic white tank. The nude shoe is everywhere and is the ultimate companion for your show stopping brights! A camel, nude or brown wedge will complement your stylish color boast.

Mixing colors is the perfect dose of glam. Color-blocking is here to stay and the citrus palette can easily be mixed and matched. Don't go overboard! Limit yourself to two colors and keep the rest of your outfit neutral. The look is dramatic but you want it to be functional as well.

Colorful accessories are a swanky way to amp up your attire. A large lemon-lime bangle, or a luxurious statement necklace will do just that; make a statement! Wedges and sandals are showing up in these vibrant colors as well, so use these as your pop of color if you dare!

In the store we have all your citrus needs covered. Stop in to try on our Jay Godfrey orange shorts or bright Monrow frock that will be perfect as we head into spring. Finish the look with a pair of Cynthia Vincent wedges or any of our fun jewelry!

Maximillion

And yet again the trend continues for this spring and summer; the maxi dress! Long, romantic and flowing, this pret-a-porter piece has fallen in the ranks of other wardrobe staples. This season brings a riot of different shapes, colors, prints and embellishments. This maxi serves as a tropical getaway style to a black tie affair! This is one trend that is also age appropriate for all. There are so many different options and directions you can go in this simple, yet elegant dress.

It's all in the fabric! Take a relaxing day by the pool or beach in a light-weight jersey maxi. If it gets damp, it is quick to dry and you can throw this get-up on with your favorite flat sandals, a straw hat and you are beach chic! As always, dress for the occasion. You will want to portray a softer "I'm on vacation" look, so choose a looser fitting maxi. Save the curve-hugging attire for your night out!

Once the weather warms up, we know how to throw a good barbecue! Again, think maxi! Day events such as a brunch, birthday party or shower is the perfect time to pull out vibrant prints and colors through a maxi dress. Patterns that are wowing include ikat, chevron, and damask to name a few! The is the perfect opportunity to incorporate color as well. If you go solid, you can pair it with a gold long necklace or statement necklace. Whether you choose sky high wedges or a jeweled sandal, you are sure to arrive looking stunning!

The maxi has evolved into exquisite evening wear as well. The weight of the fabric makes the statement, so choose a silk or chiffon to create the look of elegance. You can also depend on the neckline to conger the look of sophistication. A halter can offer a beaded neck in place of a necklace. As in most cases, finish the look with a strappy sandal or wedge for the ultimate in evening attire.

Seek out the most flattering look for you and enjoy the sunshine and blooms while looking like a million bucks!

Tribal Inspiration

Prints and patterns were a fashion favorite on the runways for spring and at Anna & Alice, we couldn't agree more! Taking bohemian inspiration, Mara Hoffman knows prints! Show off your vibrant side with bold colors, ikat patterns, and exotic shapes! Mara's collection is timeless, but not for the novice when it comes to color and eye-catching edge.

Mara Hoffman was born in Buffalo, New York and is now a New York city based fashion designer. She graduated from Parsons School of Design and studied at Central Saint Marins College of Art and Design in London before launching her first ready-to-ear collection in 2000. Beginning with one of a kind pieces, she often hand-dyed her fabrics and adorned the garments with African inspired touches. In 2005 she began to focus on dramatic designs and from there, her unique prints began to define the collection. In 2008 she launched her swimwear collection, which followed the trend of funky and urban pops of color and design. Hoffman's designs continue to evolve creatively with her team in Manhattan where she draws her inspiration from her affinity for travel, nature, mythology and magic!

Her style is dramatic, but her clothes are function with everything from a flowing swim cover-up to a long gown adorned with a heavily beaded neckline. Her use of color and tribal inspiration create fearless designs. Lovers of the line include Rihanna and Kim Kardashion! As warmer weather slowly arrives, this is the perfect time to experiment and drape yourself with this show-stopping collection!

Think Pink

On the tail of New York Fashion Week, we are seeing so many trends! As we transition into spring, the fashion industry is starting to warm up. Edible spring hues took over the runways and you could say pretty in pink was trending! All shades of pink are fair game; raspberry, coral, rose and blush! If NYFW didn't get you in the pink mood, maybe this Valentine's Day will! Whether you want to look sweet in pink or hot in the hue, think pink!

Pink was once thought of as girly and feminine. While still true in some cases, you can turn up the heat and create an edgy look that can be far from a country club luncheon! Go as sophisticated as you want with softer shades of the pallet. This lighter hue translates well with chiffon or lighter fabrics. It is ultra flirty and great for date night or brunch with the girls.

In love with neon? (Aren't we all?) Hot pink is, well, HOT! Neon is here to stay and electric pink is no exception. For a go big or go home look, think texture. Play with tulle, silk or a heavy taffeta for an upscale look. The fabric can make all the difference between looking like a circus performer and the ultra chic dame that you are!  Hot pink can complement more than just a neutral such as nude. It can easily be paired with equally bold colors.

Need to ease into the trend? As always you can add that pop of color with accessories. The pink trend will also mix well with gold or rose gold metals. Mix and match your gold jewelry with a soft rose colored bag or express your inner punk with a pink clutch adorned with studs.  Try a hot pink cross-body bag or pink flats. Be lively with a pink jeweled necklace and truly make a statement!

Sweet Shades

Got spring fever? It's February, when your any last remnants of a tan have faded, you are ready to push the black tights to the back of the closet and summer highlights can't come soon enough! You are in luck because your future looks bright! Kick those blues and make way for pastels! Think Easter egg hues such as guava, lavender, mint, and buttercup! Say goodbye to your primary colors of winter and welcome the lighter shades with open arms.

When wearing your colored denim, remember that this is considered your pop of color. The safest and most reliable pairing with your pastels is a neutral. The best for the season include ivory, white and light gray. Look as structured or as casual as your like from your trusty white cotton tee to a silk ruffle blouse! Feeling risky? Take neutrals to the neck level with prints in neutral tones such as leopard. You can also add some "umph" with accessories such as a leopard belt or polka dot bag. Just make sure you aren't too matchy-matchy with your accessories. For example: if you go with the leopard top, you don't need the leopard shoes as well!

Anyone divulged in the fashion world has noticed the trend...COLOR! Be brave and experiment with dual colors! Make sure the colors complement one another, but try buttercup jeans with a baby blue top. In this instance bring in your neutrals when adding accessories. Lastly, go monochromatic. You can absolutely use the same color on top and bottom. Break up the pattern with a neon belt or a slightly darker hue than your primary accents.

Stay fresh this spring and stand out in pastel!

Be Bold

Shake off those winter blues as we prepare for spring attire. Any time I start to see the slightest hint of pastel or neon I get a little giddy. (Not to mention ready for warmer weather!) You can be sure that a 2013 spring trend is going to be prints! You have seen them in the past, but they are everywhere! Pants, tops, handbags, accessories! Prints are guaranteed to brighten any mood! No need to be daunted by the bold patterns, embrace it! With so many options to choose from, you are sure to find print perfection!

Anyone can wear prints! As always, remember your body type. If you are top-heavy, distract with a printed skirt or crop pants. To draw attention away from your hips choose a silk patterned blouse. For a sweet and feminine look, go floral. Though great for every day, florals are ideal for an afternoon brunch or bridal shower. For more of a bohemian look, try mixing prints. Don't be afraid of patterned jeans with an edgy printed top. Patterned pants are IN! Go for a busy crop cotton pant, a wax patterned jean, or denim with brocade. All great options as we transition into spring months.

If you aren't ready for such a bold move, get sassy with accessories. A bright bag with an animal print is always a conversation starter and easy to pair with most color pallets. Try a gingham or polka dot shoe with a solid color dress to make a statement. Have an eye for jewelry with exquisite details such as tortoise or a bright colored necklace with edgy prints. Bad hair day? Fold over a bright and bold silk scarf to double as a head-piece. (this Boho look is gaining more and more popularity!)
